Psychic Vampirism: Ability to steal one's soul to keep herself young.
Matter Control: Has Control over any inanimate objects.
Telepathy: Ability to read minds and project thoughts.
Immortality: Because of her Psychic Vampirism abilities Selene can never die.
Telekinesis: Ability to move things with her mind.
Gravity defiance: From the recent slaughter of Externals Selene has gotten the ability to fly.
Teleportation: Selene can teleport all over the world in but a thought.
Invulnerability: Because of her Telepathy and Telekinesis Selene has a shield that protects her from Mental and Physical attacks.

History:

Around 4000 years ago, during the Hyborian age, a woman named Selene was born. Whether this was her real name is irrelevant. All that is known is that at one time Selene had ruled empires and battled the sorcerer known as Kulan Gath.

Selene's story is only known by her and her alone. She has lived for eons and has had many a children. According to herself, she was worshipped as Selene, The Goddess of the Moon, and she is an ancestor of the X-man, Magma. But Selene has lived for centuries as a manipulator and liar, what she says cannot always be believed.

Little is known of Selene but of what is known is, at one time, Selene had decided to exile herself and other Romans from the rest of the world. So she ventured into an island off the shores of Brazil, named Nova Roma. It was stated that Selene had been there as High Priestess for 2000 years. She used her dark arts to manipulate the citizens of her island. So much so that she even let other believe they had power over her, such as her husband,  Marcus Gallio.

But Selene grew bored with her island. She had started to feel that being exiles wasn't the greatest of her plans. It was confirmed when a group of Teenagers landed on her island. They were called the "New Mutants" and Selene was intrigued by their arrival. So she captured them and along with them, a man who was following them.

The man is named Castro and he was sent by Sebastian Shaw to sabotage the attempt to find Sunspot's mother, Nina De Costa. Which was the reason that the New Mutants ended up on the island. Selene imprisoned Castro and interrogated him. That is when he explained to her Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club.

Interested in resurfacing back in the real world, Selene decided to try to kill the citizens of Nova Roma and the New Mutants to get strong enough to venture out. She tried to sacrifice Dani and Amara by throwing them into the pit of an active volcano. Amara was the first to fall to her death, but it seemed that Amara was a mutant, like her ancestor before her, and she survived.

With the help of Amara, The New Mutants successfully vanquished Selene and imprisoned her in the heart of the Volcano. It would have been the end of any normal human but Selene has proved time and time again, she is anything but ordinary.

Selene had survived the volcano and resurfaced in a New York Bar. She was weak and needed someone to feed on. So she found the strongest male she could find, The Juggernaut. Unfortunately, The X-men broke up their date when Colossus and Juggernaut ended in a brawl. Selene decided not to stay to see who the victor would be. She left with another man, took him to an alley and sucked the life from his body.

The next couple of days, New York was Selene's playground. That is where she sensed the untapped power of the young Rachel Summers (Jean Grey's daughter from another time-line). Intrigued, Selene decided that Rachel would become her heir. Unfortunately, Rachel refused and ran away scared. Rachel ended up in a club, where the owner Nicolas Damiano saw her and offered her to return to his place. She accepted the offer and returned to his apartment where she showered. But when she went looking for her only friend, there was no answer. It became painfully clear that Nick was dead and that Selene had found her. Rachel and Selene battled but Rachel was no match. If it wasn't for a mental attack from Professor Xavier, Rachel would have either been a slave or dead. Selene fled the scene when the X-men arrived.

With her plans foiled, it was now time for Selene to establish power in the new world. Although she had been exiled for 2000 years, Selene had followers. For over 2 centuries there was a religious fanatic group that worshipped Selene. The High Priest of this group was Friedrich Von Roehm. Friedrich was quite wealthy and Selene needed his power to help her get on her feet. She came to him and demanded to help her acquire a residence and a position at the Hellfire Club. Friendrich agreed.

Selene and Friedrich were on their way to the club when Rachel Summers had picked up Selene's mental image. With the help of Amara Aquilla, Rachel was able to sneak into the Hellfire Club. Amara and Rachel had gotten maid outfits from a nearby closet and decided to disguise themselves as servants to get closer to their mortal enemy, Selene. However, while they were disguising themselves, Selene was in a secret meeting with Sebastian Shaw. Selene demanded to be accepted as Black Queen and after a small display of her power, Sebastian Shaw had no choice but to agree.

To celebrate her acceptance, Selene decided to present Shaw with 2 gifts. She left the meeting room and confronted Amara and Rachel outside. She was able to place mental control on them and presented them to Shaw to do with them what he wished. But before Shaw could act on the gifts, Amara had broken free and used her powers to almost tear down the entire mansion. Selene was going to act and destroy them but Night Crawler intervened and teleported Selene away. While the X-men arrived to rescue their young members.

Though her planned failed, Shaw had no choice but to accept her as their Black Queen.
